The web is like the ocean and your website is just one fish amongst millions of other fish. So how do you grab attention? How do you get noticed with so much competition?
Of course it’s important to optimize your site for search engines, however even if you are in the first 3 pages in search results, you still have to grab our attention and be the one to call.
Many websites in any given industry are too generic, if you really want to stand out think about what is unique about what you do. Consider where your largest client base comes from, who uses your services or buys your product the most.
Let’s say you’re a massage therapist, you can bet there are hundreds of other massage therapists in your city who will pop up in search results along side yours.Typical generic homepage: “Jane Doe registered massage therapist, safe, gentle and effective. Relief of chronic pain, I will help improve your vitality and well being….blah blah blah” Most therapist sites say the same thing, so who do we call?
Now suppose Jane Doe gets most of her clients from minor work related injuries, such as being on their feet all day. For Jane Doe to stand out she can gear her services towards this target market: “Aching muscles from standing or typing all day? Let me help you relieve your pain so you aren’t so tired at the end of the day”.
Or Jane Doe can have a short bulleted list of typical injuries she treats:
Ok our fictional massage therapist could say it better than that; however you get the idea, now she has our attention.
There are all kinds of ways you can focus on a niche without losing the rest of your client base. Think about a how you can make your website different from the rest so you aren’t just another fish swimming in the sea.
